The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2: Hugo Weaving Provides Update on the Sequel
Actor Hugo Weaving has provided an update on the highly-anticipated sequel to the 1994 dark comedy road trip film, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Weaving, who starred alongside Guy Pearce and Terrence Stamp in the original film, spoke with Variety, revealing that he has been in contact with director Stephan Elliot and has “another script to read” as part of the development process.
According to Weaving, the script has undergone significant changes, with five drafts complete so far. While a release date has yet to be confirmed, the actor stated that the project is “slowly getting closer to perhaps happening next year.” This marks a significant update from the summer, when co-star Guy Pearce revealed that there were “no updates at this stage” regarding the film’s progress.
The original The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert followed a transgender woman and two drag performers as they embark on a journey across the Australian Outback, performing and dealing with small-town prejudice.
