Washington Commanders Fall to Philadelphia Eagles in Thrilling Matchup
Quarterback Sam Howell finished the game with 29-of-48 passing for 255 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, his first since Week 17. He also ran for 48 yards and a score. Despite his efforts, the Commanders were unable to overcome the Eagles’ dominant performance.
The game was largely out of reach by the fourth quarter, with the Eagles taking a 25-point lead. The Commanders’ three earlier fumbles, including one by Dyami Brown and another by Jeremy McNichols, led to Eagles touchdowns. The game was all but over when Austin Ekeler was stripped of the ball near midfield in the third quarter.
Despite the loss, quarterback Taylor Heinicke reflected on the season, saying “I don’t want to have a feeling like this again.” Coach Ron Rivera echoed his sentiments, acknowledging that the team’s turnovers hurt, but also noting that the Eagles’ defense was able to create takeaways.
The Eagles’ defense has been a thorn in the side of the Commanders all season, forcing 10 takeaways in three meetings. In their 17 other games, the Commanders had only 10 giveaways.
Despite the disappointment, Heinicke believes there was plenty to be proud of from this season, vowing to learn from the moment. “We all just meshed. We got to this point, but at the end of the day we lost. It sucks, but we’ll move on from this.”
