President-elect Trump has assembled a diverse group of advisors for his upcoming administration. In just three weeks, he has selected 15 top officials, including seven women and eight men.
One of the most intriguing picks is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a pro-choice Democrat who has written that he supports unrestricted access to abortion up until fetal viability, which is considered to be around 24 weeks gestation. Conservative Republicans are wary of Trump’s pick for Health and Human Services, while some have expressed confidence that he will act in line with the administration.
Another interesting pick is Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who has been a strong proponent of labor rights in her short stint as a House Republican. She championed the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which increased penalties for employers who break labor laws and made it easier for workers to unionize. Her candidacy for Labor Secretary was backed by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union.
Chris Wright, a self-described “tech nerd” and CEO of Liberty Energy, has been picked to lead the Department of Energy. Wright has called himself a “dedicated humanitarian” who is focused on expanding access to “abundant, affordable, and reliable energy,” which aligns with Trump’s campaign promise to bolster oil and gas production and promote energy independence.
Former World Wrestling Entertainment executive and major GOP donor Linda McMahon has been selected to become the Secretary of Education, a position she has openly expressed interest in. Additionally, former Rep. Douglas Collins, an Air Force Reserve chaplain, is set to become the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, which Trump praised as a necessary step to ensure the proper care and support for U.S. military personnel, veterans, and their families.
Finally, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a staunch ally of Trump, has been picked to become the head of the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees multiple federal agencies, including the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Secret Service, among others.
