President Biden’s Decision to Pardon Hunter Biden Earns Only 20% Approval
A new poll released Wednesday shows that a mere 20% of Americans approve of President Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter after he was convicted on felony gun and tax charges. The poll, conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, found that about half of adults disapprove of the pardon, while 18% neither approve nor disapprove, and 8% said they don’t know enough to take a stance.
The approval rating is even lower among Republicans, with 80% disapproving of the pardon, and 51% of independents expressing disapproval. Democrats are more likely to approve, with 38% expressing support, but even within their own party, many are critical of the pardon.
Hunter Biden was convicted in two separate federal cases earlier this year, and pleaded guilty to federal tax charges in September and convicted of three felony gun charges in June. President Biden argued that his son was “singled out” and that there was an effort to “break” him in order to “break” him.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was grilled by reporters regarding the pardon, with one reporter asking if President Biden and his surrogates lied to the American people. Jean-Pierre defended the president, stating, “One thing the president believes is to always be truthful with the American people.”
