Polish General Fired After Misplacing Anti-Tank Mines in Ikea Warehouse

A Polish general was dismissed from his position last week after reportedly misplacing a batch of anti-tank mines, which were later found in an Ikea warehouse. Maj. Gen. Artur Kępczyński was fired on January 9, but the reasons for his dismissal were not specified by Polish military officials. However, local reports suggested that the missing explosives were the catalyst for his dismissal.

According to reports, in June 2024, a train carrying over 1,000 tons of explosives was improperly unloaded by Polish troops, who mistakenly left the anti-tank mines to continue their journey around the country until they were eventually offloaded in the Ikea warehouse. Kępczyński reportedly kept the mishap from his superiors while furnishing subsequent supply reports that featured false numbers.

The incident came to light when an Ikea warehouse representative telephoned military officials to inquire about when they would collect their mines. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and it is unclear whether Kępczyński will face further punishment.

The story is not the first unusual incident to occur at an Ikea warehouse. The furniture store has previously played host to a number of strange events, including a Japanese macaque monkey who escaped from a crate and was seen galavanting through the store wearing a sheepskin coat and diaper, and a couple who got married in the same Ikea where they had met eight years prior.
