Police solve 40-year-old cold case murder using DNA evidence.

Police Have Arrested 83-Year-Old Man in Connection to 1981 Cold Case Murder

Dallas Police have arrested an 83-year-old man, Willie Jones, in connection to a cold case murder that took place more than 40 years ago. Jones was initially arrested on January 16 for a parole violation related to a sexual assault, and while in custody, a DNA sample was collected and later matched to a murder dating back to 1981.

The victim, Virginia White, was found dead in her home in Dallas in 1981. Jones, who was 40 years old at the time, is now accused of her murder. The case was reopened after a DNA sample was collected from Jones during his arrest, and the results have since confirmed his link to the cold case murder.

Dallas Police Department spokesperson confirmed that Jones is being held in the Dallas County Jail on charges of capital murder and his bond amount has not yet been set. The police have yet to release a motive for the murder or any additional details surrounding White’s death. Jones is not charged with any other homicide investigations.

Police are working to bring closure to the family of the victim, with a spokesperson for the department stating, “Our detectives work tirelessly to bring closure to families of homicide victims.”
