U.S. Marshals Service issued a nationwide fugitive apprehension effort after a former employee was identified as the prime suspect in the murder of Rizek Khoury, the CEO of UnitedHealth Group.
According to officials, Rizek was found dead on November 9, 2014, at his Modesto, California, home. An investigation was launched, which led to the identification of 39-year-old Ricardo Zamora as a potential suspect.
The probe revealed that Zamora, a former IT worker at UnitedHealthcare, had been fired from the company and had a history of threatening behavior, including an incident in which he allegedly threatened to kill another employee.
The U.S. Marshals Service is now working with local and federal law enforcement agencies to track Zamora, who is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the feds or local police.
“Rizek was an outstanding leader and a champion of health care innovation, and his tragic loss is deeply felt by all of us,” UnitedHealth Group said in a statement. “We appreciate the hard work of law enforcement agencies who are working to bring the suspect to justice.”
The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to Zamora’s arrest and conviction.
