Detroit Pistons fans received a surprise gift on Friday night – a bobblehead of big man Isaiah Stewart. However, they did not get to see him in action as he was suspended from the game.
Stewart accumulated a sixth flagrant foul point this season, resulting in an automatic suspension. The NBA announced the suspension and a $50,000 fine for Stewart after he made “inappropriate and objectionable gestures” after being ejected from a game against the Indiana Pacers.
The gestures, likely finger guns pointed at the Pistons bench, occurred after Stewart was ejected for a flagrant foul on Thomas Bryant. Bryant had to be held back by his teammates and Stewart walked off the court.
Stewart had entered the game with four flagrant foul points, triggering the automatic suspension based on the league’s regular-season protocols.
Despite the suspension, the Pistons gave out 5,000 of Stewart’s bobbleheads to fans. The team has been a pleasant surprise this season, sitting at 23-24 and in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Pistons’ history with the Pacers dates back to the infamous Malice at the Palace in 2004.
