Pete Carroll signs 3-year deal to coach Las Vegas Raiders.

Paul Gutierrez: Raiders Reach Agreement with Pete Carroll for Three-Year Deal

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to a three-year deal with Pete Carroll as the franchise’s new head coach, with a fourth-year team option, according to sources.

Carroll, 73, has a strong background, being one of only four head coaches to have led teams to both a college football national championship and the Super Bowl. He joins a list of coaching legends that includes Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson, and Jim Harbaugh.

This deal comes as a huge boost for the Raiders, who have struggled since moving to Las Vegas from Oakland in 2020. Since then, they have had a string of unsteady coaching regimes, including Jon Gruden, Rich Bisaccia, and Josh McDaniels. Mark Davis, the team’s owner, will now have his first stable head coach since Gruden’s departure in 2021.

As a defensive-minded coach, Carroll will be responsible for addressing the many pending free agents on the team’s defense. He will work closely with first-time general manager John Spytek to make improvements to the team.

In addition to addressing free agents, Carroll will have the task of improving the team’s quarterback play and upgrading other key positions. He will inherit a team that holds the No. 6 overall draft pick and has more than $108 million in salary cap space.

Despite the challenges ahead, Carroll is seen as a stabilizing force for the franchise. With a wealth of experience and success behind him, he is well-positioned to turn the Raiders’ fortunes around and lead the team to a strong season.
