New England’s 2024 season saw a 4-13 record, leading to the departure of Jerod Mayo and the return of Mike Vrabel as head coach. Despite not coaching since his departure from the Tennessee Titans in 2024, Vrabel’s six seasons with the Titans yielded a 54-45 record, including three playoff trips and a 2021 Coach of the Year award.
In his introductory press conference, Vrabel emphasized the importance of surrounding himself with “great people,” including new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who has previously held the title in New England. Vrabel praised McDaniels’ coaching history, citing his work with Hall of Famer Tom Brady and the success they achieved together.
The prospect of working with McDaniels is a significant opportunity for Jerod Maye, who expressed admiration for McDaniels’ record and their past work together. “Coach McDaniels, obviously, what he’s done there and the success he’s had. Fortunate to be able to have a guy come in who’s done it at a high level and learn from him coaching one of the best ever and the best ever, in my opinion, Tom (Brady),” Maye said.
Vrabel and McDaniels now face the task of turning the team around and developing a promising quarterback like Maye, providing a chance for the latter to learn from studying the past success of McDaniels and Brady.
