Patrick Mahomes vows to give Travis Kelce a winning sendoff if he retires.

Tom Brady discusses officiating and the Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently addressed the possibility of tight end Travis Kelce retiring after this season. Mahomes stated that he hasn’t had any discussions with Kelce about his plans, but acknowledged that if Kelce does decide to retire, he wants the team to send him out on a high note. Kelce signed a two-year extension before the season and is currently under contract through the end of next season.

Mahomes also brought up the fact that Kelce has a lifestyle outside of football that he may enjoy in retirement. Kelce has been Mahomes’ favorite target since the quarterback took over as the full-time starter in 2018 and the duo has won three Super Bowls together.

In an interview on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Kelce opened up on the possibility of retiring after this season. He stated that he loves everything about his job, but is not having the same level of success on the field as he has individually. He plans to re-evaluate his decision after the season and decide whether to continue playing.

The Chiefs will face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game on Sunday for the right to advance to the Super Bowl.
