Patrick Mahomes Thanks God as Chiefs Pursue 3rd Consecutive Super Bowl Title

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in six years, and Mahomes credits his faith for their success. After the AFC Championship win over the Buffalo Bills, Mahomes told CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson, “First off, I want to give all glory to God. Without Him, none of this is possible, and I truly mean that.”

Mahomes praised his teammates, saying, “I’m just so proud of my teammates and how they responded. That was a great football team. I’m just at a loss for words. I’m excited for New Orleans.” The Chiefs and Bills had a back-and-forth game, with Mahomes’ second touchdown run giving them the lead. However, Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense responded with a fourth-and-goal touchdown to tie the game at 29-29.

The Chiefs ultimately won the game 32-29, thanks to a Harrison Butker field goal and a fourth-down stop by the defense. Mahomes emphasized that it was a team effort, saying, “It’s not about one guy, it’s not about a couple guys. It’s about the whole entire team. When we needed the defense to get stops, they got stops. Offense, we made plays. That’s why we’re so special. It’s a team effort, and it’s a team football game.”

The Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVIII, who won the NFC Championship earlier on Sunday. The game is set to take place on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
