Former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee took to social media on Sunday to express his frustration with his old team after they were eliminated from playoff contention in a loss to the New York Giants.
McAfee, who played for the Colts from 2009 to 2016, criticized the organization, saying that he had “blinded” himself to the team’s problems for too long. He stated that he can see the “red flags” that suggest a lack of work ethic, poor preparation, and a lack of professionalism.
He specifically pointed to the team’s quarterback, Anthony Richardson, who abandoned a game in the red zone due to exhaustion, as evidence of the team’s culture problems. “That’s literally the only thing you need to tell someone (who knows ball) and they could tell you everything about this team,” he wrote.
McAfee also accused some fans and bloggers of being so upset that they were trying to “boot” him out of the city, and he announced that he would no longer be renewing his season tickets.
He also stated that he doesn’t think there is an easy fix for the team’s problems, saying “I don’t think it’s like a light switch. ‘Alright, we’re gonna become pros now’… I don’t know what I know?”
The former punter concluded his post by expressing hope that the team would return to its winning ways, but criticized the current organization for its lack of professionalism and poor decision-making.
