Carolina Panthers’ Rookie Running Back Jonathon Brooks Re-Tore His ACL, Out for the Season
Monday officially confirmed the worst fears of the Carolina Panthers regarding their rookie running back Jonathon Brooks. The second-round pick tore his ACL, rendering him out for the remainder of the season. This is a crucial blow for Brooks, who previously re-tore the same right ACL he rehabbed from last year’s tear during his final season with the University of Texas, the team announced on Monday.
The injury occurred when Brooks tried to cut to his left, planting on his right foot, and landed awkwardly. He attempted to walk off the field on his own, but fell to the turf and needed help to get off the field. This is a tough setback for Brooks, who previously tore his ACL in November 2023 during Texas’ run to the College Football Playoff.
Brooks had a successful season with the Longhorns, totaling 1,139 rushing yards and 286 receiving yards with 11 total touchdowns over 11 games. Despite his impressive performance, he dropped to the second round of the draft due to the ACL injury, with the Panthers snagging him 46th overall. The team was willing to help him through his rehabilitation process.
Brooks made his NFL debut in Week 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but was used sparingly, rushing for 25 yards on eight carries prior to Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He had only returned to the Panthers three weeks ago, and now faces another extensive rehab after getting his ligament repaired.
