Dog Meat Restaurant Owner Dies of Rabies in Vietnam

A 33-year-old man, Nguyen Van B., who owned a dog meat restaurant in Vietnam’s Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, has died of rabies just days after experiencing symptoms. Van B. frequently butchered dogs and cats for his restaurant, Tuoi Tre News reported. The exact way he was exposed to the rabies virus is unclear, but many believe it occurred while handling an infected dog.

Initially, Van B. sought medical care after experiencing fatigue and breathing difficulties. He was diagnosed with rabies at Cho Ray Hospital and confirmed at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases. Despite treatment, the man requested to leave the hospital to return home, where his condition worsened. He eventually succumbed to his illness, showing severe symptoms such as agitation, frothing at the mouth, muscle spasms, and confusion.
