Oscars 2025 Nominations Ignite Upset and Confusion

Oscar Nominations Spark Outrage Over Major Snubs

The 2025 Oscar nominations were announced today, with Emilia Pérez leading the pack with 13 nominations. However, fans are quick to point out some of this year’s major snubs, including Denis Villeneuve, who was not nominated for Best Director for Dune: Part Two despite it getting a Best Picture nomination.

Villeneuve’s supporters took to Twitter to express their disappointment, with one user saying, “Do they think that movie directed itself?” Other major snubs include Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who were all snubbed in the acting categories.

The Best Actress category was particularly competitive, with many expected to be nominated, including Cynthia Ervio, Mikey Madison, and Karla Sofía Gascón. However, the nomination went to Fernanda Torres for I’m Still Here.

The snubs have left fans reeling, with some expressing their disappointment on social media. “What more does a black woman have to do to be acknowledged by the Academy?” asked one user, referring to Marianne Jean-Baptiste’s snub.

The Academy’s snub of Hard Truths actor Marianne Jean-Baptiste also sparked outrage, with one user saying, “What more does a black woman have to do to be acknowledged by the Academy???”

Nicole Kidman was also left out of the Best Actress category for her role in Babygirl, which enraged supporters like one user who noted not only Babygirl but several other “daring performance[s]” for which Kidman was denied an Oscar nomination.

Other snubs included Margaret Qualley for Best Supporting Actress for The Substance, and Challengers did not receive a nomination for Best Original Score, despite being expected to be nominated.

The Oscars will take place on March 2, and it will be interesting to see what eventually wins.
