Oregon Elections Office Vandalized Hours Before Trump’s Inauguration
The Multnomah County Elections office in southeast Portland was vandalized in the early hours of Monday, just hours before the second inauguration of President Trump. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 am, with multiple suspects believed to be involved.
According to Portland police, 24 windows and 2 doors were smashed by rocks, with anti-government and anti-establishment graffiti found on the building. An election worker reported that the vandals threw rocks and smashed every window on the street side of the building, but nothing appeared to be stolen. The damage did not seem to extend beyond the shattered glass on the floor and sidewalk outside.
Police released video and images of suspects wanted for the vandalism and believe 8-10 people were involved. Multiple suspects fled the scene before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made.
The Multnomah County Elections office confirmed that the vandalism occurred, but did not comment further. Portland police are urging anyone with information to contact them at [email protected] and reference case number 25-17004.
This incident is not the first political violence to occur in Oregon. In the 2024 presidential election, an unknown suspect set fire to a ballot drop box in Portland, with hundreds of ballots destroyed. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
