Ontario Launches $ millions Ad Campaign to Promote Economic and Cultural Ties with US
The government of Ontario has launched a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign to highlight the economic and cultural ties between the province and the United States. The campaign, launched amidst the threat of 25% tariffs imposed by President-elect Donald Trump, aims to promote Ontario as a reliable partner for American businesses.
The 60-second ad features video footage of shared landmarks such as Niagara Falls and the Gordie Howe International Bridge, highlighting the province’s importance as a trading partner with the US. If Ontario were a country, it would be the US’s third-largest trading partner, and the province is the top export destination for 17 states.
The ad emphasizes Ontario’s stability and security, as well as its ability to provide energy and critical minerals necessary for new technologies. It concludes by encouraging Americans to “bring jobs back home and build together” and emphasize that Ontario has been a trusted ally for generations.
The ad campaign will run throughout the holiday season and into the new year, with expanded placements on television and streaming apps. It will also feature digital advertisements on transit shelters, billboards, and online channels in key states with economic ties to Ontario. Additionally, a version of the ad will stream on the Fox Sports app during the Super Bowl.
The government has declined to reveal the exact amount spent on the campaign, but it is reportedly in the tens of millions of dollars. Opposition NDP Leader Marit Stiles has expressed support for the campaign as long as it does not amount to “vanity ads” for Premier Doug Ford. The campaign is seen as part of the province’s planning for the new US administration, which has been underway for months.
