One Marvel character’s on-screen debut is imminent, 17 years after his initial MCU mention.

Phase 1’s The Incredible Hulk dropped a nod to a classic Hulk character that may finally get to make his first on-screen MCU appearance more than seventeen years later. The character is Rick Jones, a student who was mentioned in Bruce Banner’s origin story in The Incredible Hulk’s opening credits. This is not the only reference to Rick Jones, as he was also mentioned in SHIELD’s files in The Avengers.

The mentions of Rick Jones are significant because in the comics, he is a key character in the Hulk’s storyline. He is a young man who gets caught in the radiation that transforms Bruce Banner into the Hulk, and he becomes a friend and ally of the Hulk. While it has been over 17 years since the first Avengers movie, it is possible that Rick Jones may finally get his chance to appear in the MCU with the upcoming movie Captain America: Brave New World.

In the comics, Captain America: Brave New World marks the debut of Thunderbolt Ross’ Red Hulk transformation, brought about by the Leader. As a result of this transformation, the Leader transforms Rick Jones into a new Gamma monster called A-Bomb. A-Bomb is strong enough to stop Red Hulk and spends some time fighting as a Hulk-like superhero.

The possibility of Rick Jones’ return is significant for several reasons. Firstly, it would be a nod to the comic book source material and a continuation of the story that has been building in the wings. Secondly, it would provide a new character to add depth to the Hulk’s world and give fans of the character something to look forward to. Finally, it would give Smart Hulk a reason to get back into fighting shape after a long break from the fray.

Considering the new development in the character of Thunderbolt Ross, the creation of a small army of Gamma monsters, including A-Bomb and possibly Red She-Hulk, would provide a reason for Smart Hulk to return and fight against the new threats. The path is set for Rick Jones to make his long-awaited debut in the MCU, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how his character will be played out.
