U.S. Olympic Sprinter Fred Kerley Arrested, Charged in Domestic Violence Incident
U.S. Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley was arrested Thursday in Miami Beach and tased by police after a confrontation that was caught on bodycam footage. According to police, Kerley approached the site of an active investigation, claiming he had parked his car nearby. However, when officers asked him to leave the area, he refused, grew agitated, and got into a fighting stance.
A physical altercation ensued, resulting in Kerley’s arrest on charges of battery on a police officer, corrections officer or firefighter; resisting an officer without violence; and disorderly conduct. He was later released on his own recognizance.
However, it was revealed that Kerley had already been charged in a separate incident from last year. An arrest affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital alleges that Kerley got into a verbal and physical dispute with his wife in May on his birthday, which turned violent after she confronted an unknown person on Instagram. The affidavit states that Kerley aggressively approached his wife, causing her to punch him in self-defense, before he grabbed her, pushed her to the ground, and choked her.
Kerley also allegedly stole his wife’s cellphone during the altercation, and he was not present when authorities arrived, making witnesses uncooperative. A probable cause alert was entered into the jail’s system, leading to Kerley’s charges being updated after his arrest on Thursday night.
Kerley is a multiple-time Olympic medalist and world champion in the 100-meter event. He won a bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics and was part of the U.S. 4×100-meter relay team in 2023. However, his latest incidents have brought unwanted attention to the Olympic athlete.
