Oklahoma State Senator Kyle Goodwin was captured on body camera footage arguing with a deputy during a traffic stop in the early morning hours of Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
According to a report from Tulsa World, the incident occurred around 1:55 a.m. when Officer Adam Pardon with the Tulsa Police Department pulled over Goodwin, who was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, for a stop sign violation.
In the footage, Pardon can be seen approaching the vehicle and asking for Goodwin’s license, registration, and insurance cards. Goodwin provides the requested documents, but then becomes agitated and belligerent, questioning the officer’s authority and the reason for the stop.
The legislator can be heard on the camera shouting, “Do you know who I am? I’m a state senator!” and “This is harassment!” as Pardon attempts to explain the reason for the stop.
Goodwin’s behavior continues to escalate, with him shouting and gesturing towards the officer, at one point stating, “I’m reporting you for harassment!”
The officer remains calm and professional throughout the incident, providing Goodwin with multiple opportunities to comply with the traffic stop and eventually issues a warning for the stop sign violation.
The encounter ends with Goodwin releasing a statement claiming that he was a “victim of harassment” and that the traffic stop was an attempt to intimidate him due to his position. The Oklahoma State Senate District 44 rep has faced criticism in the past for his handling of state funds and has been involved in several controversies throughout his political career.
