Ohio State Fans Storm the Field in Columbus After National Championship Win
Ohio State fans celebrated the Buckeyes’ national championship win by storming the field at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The fan invasion occurred just after midnight, with a large crowd of students and fans making their way onto the field to celebrate the team’s first title in more than a decade.
“I’m really kind of surreal,” freshman Thomas Schmansky told the Columbus Dispatch of the celebration. “It’s crazy and I’m surprised by how supportive the law enforcement on campus was.”
The celebration, which started around 11:45 PM, reportedly waned by 12:20 AM. The win marked the Buckeyes’ sixth national title, following a regular season that saw a loss to Michigan and doubts about the team’s playoff chances.
Head Coach Ryan Day praised his team’s resilience, saying, “It’s a great story about a bunch of guys who have just overcome some really tough situations, and at the point where there’s a lot of people that counted us out (they) just kept swinging and kept fighting.”
