North Carolina Police Officer Fatally Shot at Food Lion Store
A North Carolina police officer was killed on Monday morning at a Greensboro Food Lion grocery store. Officer Michael Horan, 44, was shot and killed by an armed man inside the store at around 11:00 a.m. after responding to a call about a man with a gun.
The shooting is currently under investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, which has not yet released information on the suspect.
The Greensboro Police Department described Officer Horan as a loving husband and father with an “outstanding reputation” within the department and community. The department is asking that people keep Horan’s family, friends, and fellow officers in their thoughts and prayers.
The Food Lion store where the shooting occurred has been closed and the company is cooperating with authorities. The company has expressed its condolences to the officer’s family and friends.
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has released a statement on social media, noting that he is in contact with local and state law enforcement regarding the shooting and has sent significant state law enforcement personnel to assist with the response.
Officer Horan had served with the Greensboro Police Department since 2018.
