New York City Mayor Eric Adams Will Have Limited Public Schedule Due to Health Issues
New York City Mayor Eric Adams will have a “limited public schedule” this week due to a series of doctors’ appointments, his office announced late Sunday night. Adams, 64, has been experiencing health issues over the past few days and will be undergoing “routine medical tests” during this time.
According to Deputy Mayor for Communications Fabien Levy, Adams will continue to communicate with staff and ensure city business continues as usual, but will have a limited public schedule. Levy did not provide details about the mayor’s health struggles, citing Adams’ right to privacy.
Adams has faced past health battles, including being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2016 and suffering vision loss, nerve damage in his hands and feet, and temporary amputation. He has since transformed his diet to only plant-based foods to improve his health.
The mayor is seeking reelection this year, despite a multi-count indictment hanging over his head for allegedly accepting free or greatly discounted travel from Turkish officials in exchange for political favors. Adams has denied all wrongdoing and a federal trial is expected in April.
In other news, Adams made an unexpected trip to attend the inauguration of President Trump in DC last week, forgoing a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event in the city.
