NYC Man Steals Cab After Assaulting Driver Over Fare Dispute.

A Drunk Passenger Chokes Taxi Driver, Steals Cab, and Crashes into Parked Car in NYC

A 25-year-old Bronx resident, Mame Gueye, was arrested after a violent altercation with a taxi driver in New York City. The incident occurred on Monday night when Gueye got into an argument with the 47-year-old driver after his card was declined as he tried to pay his fare.

The dispute began at East 23rd Street and Lexington Avenue around 11 pm, and at one point, the driver asked Gueye to get out of the car. However, Gueye allegedly pushed the driver to the ground, struck him in the torso, and wrapped his hands around the driver’s neck. The driver was then forced to get out of the car, and Gueye took the wheel, stealing the taxi.

The stolen cab was found several miles away on the Upper East Side after it crashed into a parked vehicle. Gueye fled the scene but was caught after a brief foot chase at 79th Street and Park Avenue.

Gueye faces a slew of charges, including robbery, grand larceny involving auto, driving while intoxicated, criminal obstruction of breathing, aggravated unlicensed operation involving alcohol, third-degree assault, and obstructing governmental administration. This is not Gueye’s first run-in with the law, as he was arrested in March 2023 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
