China Launches Investigation into Nvidia over Anti-Monopoly Concerns
China has launched an investigation into Nvidia Corp. over allegations of violating anti-monopoly regulations, according to a report from China Central Television on Monday. As a result, Nvidia shares fell more than 2% in premarket trading.
The State Administration for Market Regulation is examining the chipmaker’s recent actions, which are seen as a part of the escalating tech competition between the US and China. Nvidia, a dominant player in the AI chip market, has found itself at the center of the dispute.
The company has faced restrictions imposed by Washington preventing it from selling its most advanced chips to Chinese firms, which limits their capacity to advance AI technologies. This move has sparked criticism from Beijing. In response, Nvidia has made efforts to design AI chips that adhere to US export rules while still providing Chinese clients with tools to develop key technology.
