Novak Djokovic Postpones Australian Open Match After Injuring Left Hamstring

Tennis star Novak Djokovic posted a scan of his injured left hamstring on social media after being criticized by fans on social media who questioned the seriousness of his injury. Djokovic, who is 37 years old, stopped his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev after losing the opening set in a tiebreaker on Friday.

Djokovic stated at his news conference that he had a torn muscle, but some fans took to social media to question his claim. He seemingly responded by posting the picture of the MRI taken on Saturday, writing, “Thought I’d leave this here for all the sports injury ‘experts’ out there.”

Djokovic had been hurt late in his previous match, a four-set victory against Carlos Alcaraz, and had finished that match with tape on his upper left leg. He continued to play against Zverev with a similar wrap on his leg.

After his match was stopped, some spectators in the Rod Laver Arena jeered him, and Zverev chided the crowd, saying, “You’ve got to understand — Novak Djokovic is somebody that has given this sport, for the past 20 years, absolutely everything of his life.”

Djokovic claimed that he did everything he could to manage his muscle tear and that the pain became too much to handle in the first set. He announced that he will need to take time to recover from his injury.
