The University of Notre Dame is calling on fans in New Orleans to “join us in prayer” after a suspected terror attack in the city, which has left at least 10 people dead and over 30 injured. The attack occurred early Wednesday morning, just hours before the Sugar Bowl, which is scheduled to take place at the Caesars Superdome, a mile away from the crime scene.

The university issued a statement asking fans to join in prayer for those injured and lost in the tragedy, while also urging those in New Orleans to avoid the surrounding area. The school also encouraged anyone interested to attend a mass being held at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel.

The FBI is investigating the incident, which occurred when a driver plowed through a crowd on Bourbon Street and began firing a weapon. The suspect was killed in a shootout with law enforcement.

The Sugar Bowl Committee has also released a statement, saying they are “devastated” by the events and their thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. The committee is in communication with local, state, and federal authorities and will provide further updates as necessary.

New Orleans Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick announced at a press conference that the Sugar Bowl will go on as planned, with no changes to the security measures in place.
