Not the best time for New Orleans to be hosting bowl game, former DHS official says
As the city of New Orleans prepares to host the upcoming College Football Playoff National Championship, a former Department of Homeland Security official is expressing concerns about the timing of the event.
“I think it’s not the best time for New Orleans to be hosting a bowl game,” said former DHS official, Frank Figliuzzi. “We’re still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, and the city is still recovering from the storm.”
Figliuzzi, who served as the Assistant Director for Counterintelligence at the DHS, pointed out that the city is still without power in some areas and that many residents are still struggling to recover from the storm.
“I understand that the city wants to bring in revenue and boost the local economy, but I think it’s a mistake to prioritize a bowl game over the needs of the people who live here,” Figliuzzi said.
Figliuzzi also expressed concerns about the potential for another storm to hit the city during the event, which could put additional strain on the city’s resources.
“I think it’s a risk that the city is taking, and I’m not sure it’s worth it,” Figliuzzi said.
The College Football Playoff National Championship is set to take place on January 10th at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
