D.B. Cooper Siblings Believe Late Father is Infamous Skyjacker
A pair of North Carolina siblings, Chanté and Rick McCoy III, have come forward claiming that their late father, Richard McCoy Jr., is the infamous D.B. Cooper, who hijacked a plane and jumped out with $200,000 in 1971. The FBI has been unable to crack the case and it remains unsolved after 53 years.
According to the siblings, the FBI searched their home and took possession of a parachute that was allegedly hidden away, and Rick McCoy III provided DNA samples. They claim they have known the truth about their father for years but have kept it a secret due to a sense of shame and guilt.
The FBI searched the McCoy family home in 2023 and took possession of the parachute, which a renowned aviation YouTuber believes is the actual parachute used in the heist.
Richard McCoy Jr. had a history of criminal activity, including pulling off a hijacking in Utah just five months after the D.B. Cooper incident. He was later sentenced to 45 years in prison but broke out of a federal prison with three other inmates. McCoy was shot and killed in a shootout with the FBI in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 1972.
Despite the FBI officially closing the case in 2016, the new claims have sparked renewed interest in the case. Many suspects have emerged over the years, but none have been definitively linked to the crime.
