North Carolina Tar Heels Land Top Defensive Lineman from UConn in Transfer Portal
The North Carolina Tar Heels have landed a top defensive lineman in the transfer portal from the UConn Huskies. Pryce Yates, who won Defensive MVP honors in the Fenway Bowl, will be joining the Tar Heels. Yates had 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks in seven games, but missed some time due to injuries.
This comes as rumors have been circulating about North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick having an interest in NFL jobs. The NFL Network reported that Belichick and Tom Brady spoke recently about him possibly taking the Las Vegas Raiders job, with the Jacksonville Jaguars also being mentioned as a possible landing spot. However, The Athletic reported that Belichick has no plans to leave North Carolina.
Belichick, who led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles with Brady, was out of the league in 2024 after no team made him their head coach. He spent the season as an analyst before making the surprise move to take the Tar Heels gig. As a head coach, Belichick has a 302-165 record between the Patriots and Cleveland Browns.
