North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, a Carolina Hurricanes fan, took to social media to celebrate his team’s 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Cooper tweeted that he was glad his favorite team was done with the Devils for the rest of the regular season, adding that the Devils were “too good for such dirty play” after the Devils were slapped with five penalties for 21 minutes.
The game was tied going into the third period, but the Hurricanes pulled ahead with goals from Ondrej Palat, Sebastian Aho, and Jackson Blake. Jack Roslovic added two more goals to seal the win. The Devils had beaten the Hurricanes 4-2 the night before, but were unable to complete the sweep.
The two teams are among the top teams in the Eastern Conference, with the Devils leading the Metropolitan Division and the Hurricanes in third place. The teams could potentially meet again in the conference finals come spring.
