Nicholas Hoult Recalls the Creepy Gift He Received from Robert Eggers for Nosferatu
Nicholas Hoult revealed in an interview with Elle that director Robert Eggers gifted him a rather unconventional wrap gift for the upcoming Nosferatu film. The movie is a modern retelling of the 1922 silent classic, and it stars Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, a menacing vampire.
Hoult recalled a memorable scene from the film where SkarsgÃ¥rd’s Count Orlok feeds on his character, and he shared a humorous anecdote about the gift. “I have Count Orlok’s prosthetic penis framed at home. There’s a scene where Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd is slurping my blood and Robert Eggers asked afterwards, ‘How was that for you?'” Hoult said. “I said, ‘I could feel his prosthetic penis on my leg.'”
As a wrap gift, Eggers had the prosthetic penis framed and sent it to Hoult’s house. However, the frame arrived broken, so Hoult had to take it to a local frame shop. The shopkeeper was taken aback by the unusual item and asked Hoult if it was a collector’s piece. Hoult laughed, saying, “You could say that.”
This bizarre yet darkly humorous gift speaks to the psychosexual themes that Eggers brings to the film. By exploring the dark allure of the vampire myth, Eggers creates a gothic and visually striking revival of the genre. With Hoult’s anecdote about the prosthetic gift, the film promises to delve into the darker, more intimate aspects of the vampire legend.
Robert Eggers’ reputation for crafting atmospheric and surreal films, such as The Lighthouse and The Witch, makes this modern take on Nosferatu highly anticipated. By weaving historical authenticity with an exploration of power, seduction, and fear, Eggers crafts a dark and haunting story that will likely leave audiences unnerved. Hoult’s keepake serves as a quirky reminder of Eggers’ commitment to his vision, ensuring that fans are in for a unique and unforgettable experience when the film hits theaters.
