New York Rangers defenseman Matt Rempe Suspended for 8 Games After Elbowing Dallas Stars’ Miro Heiskanen
The New York Rangers recalled defenseman Matt Rempe to the main roster on Friday, but just three days later, he found himself suspended for eight games. Rempe was given a game misconduct for elbowing and boarding Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen during the Rangers’ 3-1 win on Friday night.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Rempe was suspended for eight games and fined $80,000 for the play. The league considered Rempe a repeat offender, given that he has been ejected four times in his 22-game regular-season career. Rempe began the season with the Rangers but was sent down to the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolf Pack, where he spent the majority of the season.
Rempe’s suspension is his fifth infraction in his short career, and it comes after he was ejected twice and received a four-game suspension for an elbow to the head of New Jersey Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler in March. Rempe has no points and 24 penalty minutes in five games for the Rangers, who are currently 16-16-1 this season. The team lost to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, 3-1.
