Allen was a defensive coordinator previously, holding the position with the Broncos in 2011 and with the Saints from 2015 to 2021. During his time with the Saints, the team ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in points and yards allowed in his final two seasons as defensive coordinator and in his first season as head coach in 2022.

Allen and Doyle, 28, worked together on Sean Payton’s staff with the Saints. Doyle followed Payton to Denver in 2023. The Bears offense is expected to remain largely designed by Johnson, with Allen calling plays, although Doyle is considered a rising star in the coaching world.
