NFL Week 18 Takeaways: What’s Next For Playoff-Bound and Eliminated Teams? | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

Bo Nix, Broncos Boost Confidence Ahead of Playoffs

The Denver Broncos secured a win over the Kansas City Chiefs in a game that meant nothing for the Chiefs, who had already secured the AFC’s number one seed. The Chiefs rested most of their key players, and it seemed like they had no interest in making the game competitive. The Broncos, on the other hand, knew that a loss would eliminate them from playoff contention, and they played with a playoff intensity.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix was fantastic, making smart decisions, showcasing his accuracy, and making plays with his legs. He finished the game 26-of-29 for 341 passing yards, four touchdowns, and 47 rushing yards. The Oregon product has shown growth throughout the season, and against the Chiefs, he looked like a quarterback who will be difficult to contain in the postseason.

The win snapped the Broncos’ two-game losing streak, and they can now start preparing for their wild-card visit to Buffalo. The Broncos’ performance against Chiefs backups didn’t tell us much about their potential as a road playoff team, but they looked and played like a team ready for win-or-go-home football.

The Chiefs’ decision to sit their starters was the right call, given their experience and Andy Reid’s ability to get his team ready for the playoffs. However, the game did reveal that the Chiefs’ backups leave much to be desired. Quarterback Carson Wentz struggled to get anything going with pass-catchers, and the team’s defense failed to slow down the Broncos’ offense, which racked up 479 total yards. Despite the loss, the Chiefs can suffer through a lopsided loss to a division rival if it means having a healthier team for the three-peat run.
