While people tucked into their turkey, there was plenty of football for fans to enjoy on Thanksgiving. Games in Detroit, Dallas, and Green Bay were played with the winning teams celebrating, as is tradition, by eating turkey during their postgame interviews.
The NFL’s first game of the day, a matchup between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions, was a closely contested one, with the Bears ultimately falling short 23-20. The Monsters of the Midway were able to cut a 16-point deficit to three with a late rally, but a missed timeout call from head coach Matt Eberflus and a failed fourth-down conversion led to their defeat. The loss extends their losing streak to six games.
In the next game, the Dallas Cowboys, missing quarterback Dak Prescott due to injury, used a strong performance from backup Cooper Rush and running back Rico Dowdle to defeat the New York Giants 27-20. The win improves the Cowboys’ record to 5-7 and keeps their playoff hopes alive, with their odds of reaching the postseason now standing at 4%.
The final game of the day saw the Green Bay Packers use a strong offensive performance to hold off the Miami Dolphins 30-17. Quarterback Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes, and running back Josh Jacobs had a 100-yard game for the second straight week, as the Packers improved to 9-3. The win sets up a huge NFC North matchup with the Lions next week at Ford Field.
