NFL QB Market Outlook: Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and others potentially land new homes.

Veteran Quarterback Options in Free Agency and Trade

As the 2025 NFL offseason approaches, several teams may be looking for a new starting quarterback. While the 2025 draft class is not particularly deep, there are some intriguing veteran options available in free agency and trade. One NFL general manager noted that while there isn’t a Peyton Manning-type quarterback available, some of these veterans can still play and potentially lead a team to the playoffs.

Russell Wilson, 36, has revived his career in Pittsburgh and could be an attractive option for teams looking for a bridge quarterback. Aaron Rodgers, 41, has had a disappointing stint with the Jets and may not be wanted by any team due to his age and salary demands. Sam Darnold, 27, has revived his career in Minnesota and could be a good option for teams looking for a game manager. Jameis Winston, 30, has a great arm but throws too many interceptions, making him a riskier option.

Other veterans on the market include Daniel Jones, 28, who could be a good fit for a team looking for a bridge quarterback; Justin Fields, 25, who could be a plug-in starter; Derek Carr, 33, who may only find work as a backup or bridge starter; Kirk Cousins, 36, who is under contract with the Falcons but could be traded or released; and Geno Smith, 34, who may be looking for a new team after his days as a starter with the Seahawks come to an end.

While the 2025 draft class may not be strong, these veteran quarterbacks could provide a short-term solution for teams looking for a new starting quarterback.
