[Newly Released Photos Show Joe Biden Meeting with Son Hunter’s Chinese Business Partners
Newly released pictures show then-Vice President Joe Biden meeting with some of his son Hunter Biden’s Chinese business partners during an official visit to China in 2013. The photos, which were made public after a public records request from a pro-Trump right-wing legal group, are the first to be released despite being known about for years.
The images show Joe Biden introducing his son to Li Yuanchao, who was China’s vice president at the time, as well as Hunter introducing his father to his Chinese business partners, some of whom were executives at the private equity firm BHR Partners. The photographs also include a group picture of the Bidens with a few of the Chinese businessmen.
The release of these images further undercuts Joe Biden’s assertions that he never had any business-related contact with his son. In fact, the House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden uncovered at least two dozen interactions between him and his son’s business partners from China and other countries.
Hunter Biden and others have testified that, despite occasional phone calls, meet-and-greets, and dinners with Joe Biden, business was never substantively discussed. Hunter’s former main US business partner testified that Hunter was selling the “illusion” of access to his father, but “nothing of material was discussed” during these interactions.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, criticized the Trump-aligned group that fought to obtain and release the images, saying there is nothing new in the photos and they match perfectly with Hunter’s congressional testimony description of who he saw at the public event during the 2013 trip to China.
A White House spokesperson said the trip, which occurred over a decade ago, is old news and that House Republicans already wasted years and millions of taxpayer dollars proving that President Biden was not in business with his son. The release of the photos comes as Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals continue to draw scrutiny from Hill Republicans and Justice Department investigators, with some accusing him of leveraging his father’s political power for personal gain.
