Closed Circuit Screenshots of Person of Interest in UnitedHealthcare CEO Killing Released
Police have released closed-circuit screenshots of a person of interest in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The individual is believed to have left New York City shortly after the slaying on Wednesday, taking a bus from upper Manhattan.
According to New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the released photos show the face of the person of interest without a mask, as investigators want to show the image to a wider audience beyond New York City. Tisch stated that police have a “huge amount of evidence” including forensic evidence, fingerprints, DNA evidence, and a “massive camera canvas” of the gunman’s movements throughout the city.
Surveillance footage shows the person of interest riding a bike from the scene of the fatal shooting to Central Park, and then exiting the park near West 77th Street. The individual then walked to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Washington Heights, where they entered a taxi cab before getting out and entering the bus terminal.
Police believe the individual may have left New York City, and are trying to determine which bus they boarded. The terminal has buses and shuttle vans traveling to destinations in New Jersey and other areas outside of New York City. The suspect is also believed to have traveled from Atlanta to New York City on a Greyhound bus two days before the shooting.
Thompson, 50, was shot and killed as he was about to walk into the Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday. The incident is being treated as a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
