A chilling video shows the moment a terror suspect rammed through a police barrier at the beginning of a New Orleans terror attack, killing 15 people and injuring 30.
The suspect, 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, a US citizen from Texas, was identified by the FBI. He was a US Army veteran and was wearing full body armor and armed with an assault rifle during the attack.
The video shows the white truck driving through traffic on a busy road in central New Orleans, sharply turning right and ramming into barriers and bollards. Jabbar then drove the truck down Bourbon Street “at a very fast pace” and was “intentional” in “trying to run over as many people as he possibly could,” according to police superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick.
Pipe bombs were found inside the wrecked car, concealed within coolers and wired for remote detonation, and an ISIS flag was found attached to a white pipe sticking up from the hitch of the rented Ford pickup.
Jabbar was killed by police after the attack, and the FBI is investigating whether he was firing from the truck during the rampage. The identities of the victims have begun to emerge, including 18-year-old Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux and dad-of-two Reggie Hunter, 37.
The FBI is also investigating whether Jabbar acted alone in the attack and is “aggressively running down every lead, including those of his known associates.”
