New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy recently addressed the recent surge in mysterious drone sightings in the state, describing the devices as “very sophisticated” and saying they “go dark” as soon as someone tries to get a look at them.
Speaking at a press conference, Murphy acknowledged public frustration and emphasized that authorities have found no evidence of a threat to public safety. He revealed that there were 49 reported sightings on Sunday, mostly in Hunterdon County, although some reports may have overlapped.
The governor emphasized that the state, local, and federal authorities, including the FBI and Homeland Security, are working together to uncover the origins of the drones. He urged residents to report any sightings to local law enforcement or the FBI and promised transparency, stating that if authorities learn something new, they will inform the public immediately.
The drone sightings, which began last month, have been alarming residents and have led to an ongoing FBI investigation. The drones have reportedly been spotted near military facilities, the president-elect’s home, and other critical infrastructure. While authorities say there is no imminent threat, they are taking the matter seriously and have restricted drone flights over certain locations.
