Netanyahu’s Scandal: Behind the Explosive Investigation

The Bibi Files, a new documentary by acclaimed director Alexis Bloom, offers a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes life of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, showcasing his interactions with police interrogators and high-ranking officials. The film is a result of leaked videos of police questioning Netanyahu, his family, and allies, which were recorded between 2016 and 2018.

The documentary begins with Netanyahu being read his rights by police, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor as a powerful leader. The footage reveals a man who is under pressure, with moments of derision, bewilderment, boredom, and anger as he responds to allegations of corruption and favoritism.

The film argues that Netanyahu’s corruption trial, which has been ongoing since 2020, has contributed to the destabilization of the region and the worldview of Israeli politics. Investigative journalist Raviv Drucker, who has devoted much of his career to investigating allegations of corruption surrounding Netanyahu, notes that he would have never imagined the consequences of his own investigations if he had foreseen the events that would unfold.

The documentary examines the lavish gifts and political favors allegedly bestowed upon Netanyahu and his family, as well as the consequences of his actions, including his descent into extremism and the rise of the far-right in Israel. The film also explores the impact of his indictment on the region’s political landscape and the worldview of Israeli politics.

Netanyahu has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, claiming that he is the victim of a politically motivated witch-hunt, but the film suggests that his actions have severe consequences. Drucker believes that if he had known where Netanyahu would lead the country, he would not have pursued the investigations that ultimately led to Netanyahu’s indictment.

The Bibi Files will be released in UK and Irish cinemas and on demand on December 13th, and will be available on DocPlay in Australia on December 12th.
