Nelly Hits Back At Ali’s $50M ‘Country Grammar’ Lawsuit
Nelly is firing back at lawsuit claims made by producer and songwriter Mike Ali, who is seeking $50 million in damages for allegedly being left off the credits for Nelly’s 2000 album “Country Grammar”.
According to documents obtained by HipHopDX, Ali claims that he contributed to the album’s production and writing, but was not properly credited or compensated. Nelly’s legal team is denying the allegations, stating that Ali’s claims are “baseless” and “without merit”.
The lawsuit, which was filed in 2020, alleges that Ali was involved in the creation of several tracks on the album, including the hit single “Ride wit Me”. Ali is seeking damages for copyright infringement, breach of contract, and intentional interference with contract.
Nelly’s legal team has responded with a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that Ali’s claims are barred by the statute of limitations and that he failed to provide sufficient evidence to support his allegations.
The case is ongoing, with a hearing scheduled for later this year.
