Best-selling Fantasy Author Neil Gaiman Denies Sexual Assault Allegations
Neil Gaiman, a renowned fantasy author, has denied allegations of sexual assault made by multiple women in an article published by New York Magazine on Monday. In a statement on his website, Gaiman claimed that he has “never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone” and that the women’s accounts contained “moments I half-recognise and moments I don’t, descriptions of things that happened sitting beside things that emphatically did not happen.”
Gaiman’s statement comes after he was first accused of sexual assault by two women in a podcast investigation produced by Tortoise Media in July. Since then, additional women have come forward with their own allegations of sexual assault, coercion, or abuse against the author. The allegations span from 1986 to 2022 in the US, UK, or New Zealand.
Gaiman did not respond to each individual allegation, instead stating that “as I re-review everything that actually happened as opposed to what is being alleged – I don’t accept there was any abuse.” He also claimed that some of the stories being told are “so distorted from what actually took place that they bear no relationship to reality.”
Gaiman’s representatives have been contacted for further comment, but he has not publicly responded to the allegations. The author’s TV and film projects remain ongoing, with several shows and movies still in production. However, some projects have been affected by the allegations, including a decision by Prime Video to conclude its adaptation of “Good Omens” with a 90-minute special instead of a full third season, and a pause on the adaptation of “The Graveyard Book” by Disney.
