[Chuck Todd Leaving NBC After Nearly 20 Years
Chuck Todd, the former moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” is leaving the network after nearly 20 years. In an internal memo, Todd thanked his colleagues and announced that he is departing the network several months before his contract was set to expire. He stated that he is leaving to pursue a more entrepreneurial phase of his career, indicating that he has “a few new projects” in the works.
Todd’s departure is effective, and NBC is allowing him to take his twice-a-week podcast franchise, “The Chuck Toddcast,” to a new distributor. For over a decade, Todd was one of the most prominent voices at NBC News, covering the political rise of Donald Trump and the Democratic response. He moderated “Meet the Press” from 2014 to 2023, and was known for his outspoken criticism of the corrosive effects of Trump’s lies and indecency.
Todd stepped down from “Meet the Press” in 2023, after a management change at NBC News, and Kristen Welker took over his role. Despite seeing his air time diminished in recent years, Todd remained a prominent part of political and Election Night coverage last November.
In a statement, NBC News expressed gratitude for Todd’s contributions to their political coverage and wished him well in his future endeavors. Todd, in turn, emphasized the need for the media to “win back the trust of viewers/listeners/readers” by focusing on local media rather than national outlets. He believes that this is “a ripe moment” to fix the information ecosystem and that the best place to start is at the local level.
