Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been admitted to a hospital in Luxembourg after suffering an injury while traveling to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. The 84-year-old California representative tripped and fell after taking a group photo with other lawmakers and officials, according to a person familiar with the incident.
Pelosi’s spokesperson, Ian Krager, released a statement saying that she sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation. “Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals,” Krager said. “She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history.”
Pelosi was in Luxembourg with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a major World War II battle fought in Belgium. She was honored to travel with the delegation, which included many members who had family members who fought in World War II.
The U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg posted an image of Pelosi on its social media account, saying that she was personally and officially honored to travel with the delegation. Pelosi is looking forward to returning to the U.S. soon, according to her spokesperson.
