Moana 2 Cast & Crew Discuss The Film’s Inspiration In New BTS Clip

In a new behind-the-scenes look at the making of Moana 2, the film’s voice cast and crew share the inspiration behind the highly anticipated animated sequel.

The clip, which was shared exclusively with us, features Moana 2 director Jamie Mitchel and screenwriter Christian Hoffman discussing the film’s themes of identity, self-discovery, and the power of storytelling. “Moana 2 is a story about embracing your true self and finding your place in the world,” Mitchel explains.

The cast, including leading voice talents Clare Rankin Walker and Puanani Cravens, also weigh in on the project’s roots in Polynesian culture and the importance of representation in animation. “As a Hawaiian Native, it’s amazing to be a part of a film that celebrates and honors my heritage,” Cravens says.

Mitchell and Hoffman, who are part of the core creative team behind the Moana franchise, also touch on the sequel’s more lighthearted moments and nods to the original 2016 film. “We wanted to capture the same sense of wonder and adventure as the first film, but with new and exciting twists,” Hoffman says.

The film is set to hit theaters in the summer of 2024.
