Microsoft Contributes $1 Million to President-Elect Donald Trump’s Inauguration Fund
Microsoft announced Thursday that it will be donating $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration fund. This move makes the software giant the latest technology company to support the President-elect, following similar donations from Google and Meta earlier in the year. Amazon and OpenAI have also reportedly pledged similar contributions, with Apple CEO Tim Cook personally committing $1 million.
In a blog post last week, Brad Smith, Microsoft’s vice chair and president, wrote that the company is hopeful that the incoming administration will support favorable AI policy in the US. Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, has also had multiple meetings with Trump, including discussions regarding the potential acquisition of TikTok in the US.
Microsoft previously donated $500,000 to Trump’s first inauguration fund, as well as $500,000 to President Joe Biden’s inaugural fund. This marks a change in approach for the company, which is now more aligned with its tech peers. With its donation, Microsoft is one of the most high-profile supporters of Trump’s administration.
