Michigan Police Search Landfill for Missing Ashley Elkins

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WDIV) – Michigan State Police are searching a Kalamazoo County landfill for any signs of Ashley Elkins, who has been missing since February 11.

According to police, Elkins, 23, was last seen leaving her home on February 10 around 10:30 p.m. She was reported missing the next morning when she failed to show up for work.

Authorities launched an investigation and have been scouring the area, following up on leads and conducting interviews with people who may have information on her disappearance.

On Monday, police took a new direction in their search, focusing on the Kalamazoo County landfill along with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police Search and Recovery Unit.

Police say they have obtained a search warrant to search the landfill, where they are combing through trash to see if any clues can be found that might have been thrown away around the time of Elkins’ disappearance.

The landfill search is expected to continue for the coming days, with multiple teams of investigators and dogs working together to scour the massive facility.

Family and friends of Elkins are also doing their part, holding a vigil Monday night and sharing photos and memories of the missing woman on social media using the hashtag “FindAshley”.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
